Say No to Peer Pressure with Positive Affirmations

Say No to Peer Pressure with Positive Affirmations

Do you often find yourself giving in to prompts and urges from your peers? And does this lead to your doing some things or engaging in some activities you wouldn't normally do on your own accord or don't feel proud to do? If your answer is yes, then you are a certified slave to peer pressure. And this, no matter how popular it makes you among your circle of friends, has got to stop.

Peer pressure can affect you in many ways. At first, they may pressure you to do small things that don't have any lasting effect. But the more you become enslaved by it, the more power other people have over you, and the more potentially damaging the effects of this can be.

So before you find yourself doing something you're sure to regret, you should do something to get out from under the spell of your peers. And the good news is, positive affirmations can help make this change easy for you.

1. Evaluate your circle of friends. Taking after the people we usually spend time with is a normal reaction in ourselves. It is in our nature to be easily influenced by the people around us. Each person sends off vibrations that form from his or her thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and mood, and these vibrations somehow get eaten up by our subconscious minds. This is why we are very susceptible to peer pressure, and sometimes even without knowing it.

So if you spend a lot of time with people who have negative beliefs and habits, you also become a slave to these beliefs and habits subconsciously. The first thing you have to do is to evaluate whether you are spending time with people who have a healthy effect on your subconscious. If not, then it would be best for you to consider whether your circle of friends needs to be changed. If you spend time with positive people who have positive habits, then those are also the habits your subconscious will get used to.

2. Exert your independence. Some people feel safe and comfortable when they're just going with the flow. This is usually what happens when the person is afraid of not belonging to a group or is not confident enough to be his own person. So if you don't want to be a slave to peer pressure anymore, you have to:

·         Get rid of negative thoughts about yourself such as self doubt

·         Believe in your ability to make wise decisions for yourself

·         Give your self confidence a boost

For these changes, you can depend on positive affirmations. These are messages that can convince your subconscious of anything you want it to believe in. You can tell your subconscious the following messages:

I am capable of making my own decisions.

I am independent.

I am confident about myself.

I make wise decisions for myself.

I choose my own actions.

Once your subconscious believes in these messages, it will start working towards making them a reality since it will not tolerate any discrepancy between its beliefs and what is real. Thus, you make yourself confident and independent in making your own decisions and can therefore free yourself from peer pressure.
